Arrivo is developing truly 21st century technology to bring fast, safe, low cost, & clean transportation to the world! Arrivo seeks a highly qualified Lead Structural Engineer in our downtown Los Angeles, CA headquarters. The successful candidate will have a broad background in safety-critical structures design, analysis, and testing with demonstrated capability to deliver from a blank sheet.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead all structural aspects of Arrivo system guideway engineering through trade studies, design and analysis of primary structure and surrounding systems
  • Rapidly drive design and development of guideway structures through analysis and test, starting from basic principles
  • Collaborate with expert technical teams (vehicle, dynamics, powertrain, controls, mechanisms, tooling) to drive development tasks to resolution
  • Provide hands on support during fabrication, testing, and deployment of primary structure, including travel to remote sites for fabrication oversight, testing, and issue resolution
  • Work with fabrication team and external vendors to ensure delivery of parts and assemblies
  • Own top-level guideway CAD models and configuration management of primary structure and substructure
  • Contribute to the development of Arrivo’s structural engineering process, including new analysis and test methodology as required

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years' experience designing large steel and aluminum structures (weldments & bolted), including:
  • Exact Constraint Design
  • Design for Manufacturing
  • Design of bolted joints, lugs, shear pins, weld doublers, struts, stiffeners, steel and aluminum structural shapes, assembly methods, and basic mechanisms
  • Experience with pre-cast concrete a big plus
  • Expert CAD modeling skills, preferably in CATIA V5/V6
  • Experience with large assemblies, configuration management, parametric design
  • Drafting experience per ASME Y14.5
  • Proficient with Finite Element Analysis, including:
    • Model construction, linear and nonlinear static analysis, modal analysis, & buckling analysis
    • Expert knowledge of welding, machined parts, heavy fabrication techniques, rigging, & tolerances
  • Experience working in the field during construction and operation of heavy equipment & large structures
  • Good working knowledge of metallic and non-metallic materials and their applications (steels, aluminums, composites, rubbers, plastics)
  • Ability to build and operate spreadsheet calculators in Excel
  • Scripting/programming language knowledge preferred (Matlab, Python)
  • Proven track record of delivering component and subsystem designs from concept through development and production
