Arrivo is developing truly 21st century technology to bring fast, safe, low cost, & clean transportation to the world! Arrivo is seeking a highly qualified Senior Thermal Systems Engineer based in our downtown Los Angeles, CA headquarters. Reporting to the Head of Product Engineering, the Senior Thermal Systems Engineer is responsible for the synthesis and development of novel thermal management systems for Arrivo vehicles and power systems. The successful candidate will have demonstrated technical excellence in the design and development of high-performance vehicle thermal management systems (e.g. pumps, valves, sinks, heat exchangers, reservoirs, ducts, fans, and supporting components), preferably in a startup environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish, develop, and ship Arrivo’s thermal management systems from a clean sheet
  • Set targets for relevant vehicle and system attributes such as comfort and NVH as well as detailed subsystem and component requirements
  • Create, execute, and maintain CAD models, thermal analyses, CFD analyses, structural analyses, bills of material (BOMs), test plans, and drawings in cooperation with aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, levitation, guideway, and vehicle systems engineers
  • Provide hands-on support during fabrication, testing, and deployment of thermal systems, including travel to remote sites for fabrication oversight, testing, and issue resolution
  • Document design criteria, and lead preliminary and critical design reviews for components and subsystems
  • Direct other engineers to accomplish relevant supporting tasks

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. M.S. and/or student project team experience strongly preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience in thermal systems in the automotive, aerospace, defense, or racing industries, or similar
  • Proficiency with initial sizing and 1D analysis of thermal management systems using tools such as SINDA/FLUINT, Thermal Desktop, or FloCAD
  • Expertise in vehicle thermal systems including pumps, valves, heat exchangers, compressors, sensors, fluid transfer components, and vehicle performance testing
    • Working knowledge of psychrometrics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics and thermal management
  • Proficiency with CATIA V5/V6 or another leading CAD package
  • Basic proficiency with - and willingness to use - FEA and CFD tools to inform hand calculations and other fundamental analysis
  • Proven track record of delivering thermal systems from concept through development and into production
